Toluwanimi Okunola
Toluwanimi (Toh-loo-wah-nee-mee) grew up in Nigeria and moved to Canada as a teenager, 8 years ago.
In 2019, she graduated top off her faculty with a diploma in Social Work from Mount Royal University, Calgary. Since then, Tolu has garnered a wealth of experience working with at-risk kids and youth, women experiencing domestic violence, people with disabilities, and community members experiencing food insecurity. She has also worked with local Alberta farmers and small business onwers as a Farmers’ Market Manager. She enjoys partnering with individuals and communities to help and improve lives; for this reason, whatever work she does will always be people-oriented.
In 2022, Tolu made the decision to return to school and is currently a 3rd year Management student at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan, where she is acquiring skills in Business Management and Leadership. With these academic backgrounds, she is actively building a professional identity that combines human-centeredness with business savviness.
Toluwanimi is interested in Public Policy, because she believes it can be a powerful tool with which to effect lasting positive change. She is ever-curious, and her greatest strength is her ability to build connections wth people. Her most important relationship is the one she has with God, as she is most fulfilled when she is connected to God. Her favourite things to do include dancing and cooking, and she claims that ice-cream is one of the greatest inventions.
