Amanda Aziz
Amanda is an immigration and refugee lawyer, and longtime advocate for migrant justice. She is the daughter of immigrants and has supported many families in navigating their immigration status in Canada. She has worked with organizations supporting women and workers’ rights, including the West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund and the BC Government and Service Employees Union, and is involved with Sanctuary Health, a grassroots community group that advocates for access to services for all regardless of immigration status. She is also a regular volunteer with Rise Women’s Legal Clinic and is currently working on a regularization project for undocumented construction workers with the Canadian Labour Congress.
She regularly appears before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada and Federal Court of Canada, and is a member of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers National Executive and co-chair of the BC Refugee Lawyers’ Group. Prior to her life as a lawyer, Amanda worked at the national level advocating for accessible post-secondary education in Canada, representing post-secondary students.She divides her time between the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples (Vancouver and area) and the Algonquin Anishnaabe peoples (Ottawa), and tries to visit her family in both Hungary and Egypt as often as possible.
