Kris Statnyk (he/him) is a citizen of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation from the community of Old Crow, Yukon. He currently lives on Wilp Spookw territory in the Gitxsan lax yip together with his wife and son who are Gitxsan from the Wilp of Sakum Higookw.
Kris is a lawyer with a solo aboriginal law practice in Yukon and British Columbia with a focus on providing community-based legal advocacy, advice and support to Indigenous peoples in their pursuit of self-determination over a range of areas including governance and management of lands and resources; negotiation and implementation of treaties, self-government agreements and other constructive agreements; development and implementation of Indigenous laws and governance policies; and Indigenous-Crown relations.
He serves as a board member on the Gwich’in Council International, Yellowhead Institute and West Coast Environmental Law.
